What happens to what you ask
In plain words: what Ask Yes Chef reads to answer you, who processes it, what is kept and for how long.
On this page
This page covers the chat only. The full policy for the app is at yeschefhub.com/privacy, and it is the one that counts if the two ever differ.
What it reads to answer you
- Your question, and the last few turns of the conversation so that “and tomorrow?” makes sense.
- The records the question needs, from your restaurant’s own data, and only those you are allowed to see. It is given your permissions and no more.
- Your name, your level and the location you are asking about, so it knows who is asking and where.
Some things are kept from it whoever asks:
- Pay. Wages, rates and labour cost are left out unless you hold “See and edit staff pay rates”.
- What messages say. It can tell you which chat has unread messages and how many. The text of a message is never passed to it.
- Why someone is off. “Who’s off this week?” gives who, what kind and which days, never the reason. The reason is shown only on a request waiting for the person who approves it.
- Photos and signatures on checks. They are counted, not shown.
Who processes it
The answers are written by an AI model from Google (Gemini). Your question and the records it looked up are sent to Google to produce the answer. They are not allowed to train their models on it. Some of the companies we use are outside the UK; where they are, the transfer is covered by the UK’s approved safeguards.
When you speak a question on the iPhone, your speech is turned into text by the iPhone’s own speech recognition, which is Apple’s. Yes Chef is sent the words, not a recording.
What is kept, and for how long
- Your questions and the answers are kept so that you can scroll back to them. They are deleted after 90 days.
- Only you see your conversation in the app. It is not shown to your colleagues or your manager.
- A change you confirm from a card is made by you, under your name, exactly as if you had made it on its own screen. It is recorded like any other change in the app.
What it does not do
- It does not change anything without you pressing a button.
- It does not message anyone, publish anything or delete anything by itself.
- It does not act on instructions written inside notes, briefings, tasks or names. Text your team has typed is treated as information only.
- We do not sell anything about you or show you adverts.
