Clock in away from the site

What the iPhone app does when you clock in outside your site’s clock-in zone, or with your phone’s location switched off.

Who can do this: Anyone clocking in at a location that has a clock-in zone

On this page

A location can have a clock-in zone: a circle around the site with a set radius in metres. Inside it you clock in as normal. Outside it, or with your phone’s location off, you can still clock in, and the clock-in waits for a manager’s OK.

If you are outside the zone

  1. Press Clock in as usual. A sheet headed Off-site? shows how far from the site your phone thinks you are, and the size of the zone.
  2. If you are at work and the phone has it wrong, or you are working somewhere else today, press Clock in anyway. Otherwise press Cancel and clock in when you arrive.
  3. You are clocked in. Your manager sees the timesheet flagged Off site with the distance.

If your phone’s location is off

  1. Press Clock in. A sheet headed Location off opens, because the phone gave no position to check against the zone.
  2. Press Clock in anyway, or Cancel and allow location for Yes Chef in your iPhone’s settings first.
  3. You are clocked in. Your manager sees the timesheet flagged Location off.

What your manager sees

The timesheet is marked To approve. Opening it shows the clock-in time, how many metres from the site it was, and a map under Where with the site and where you clocked in and out. They then approve it, correct it or discard it.

Things worth knowing

  • At a location with no zone, where you are is saved with your clock-in and nothing is held because of it.
  • Where you are when you clock out is saved too, but clocking out is never held for being off site.
  • The zone is set per location, under Clock-in zone in Location settings on the web.

If it doesn’t work

It says you are off site and you are standing in the building
A phone’s position can be out, more so indoors. Press Clock in anyway and tell your manager; the map on the timesheet shows them where the phone placed you. If it happens to everyone, the zone may be too small or centred in the wrong place.
The phone never asks for your location
Location was refused for Yes Chef earlier. Allow it in your iPhone’s settings, under Yes Chef.
