Why a page is missing or says “No access”
The three reasons a page or tab is not there for you, how to tell which one it is, and who can change it.
On this page
Yes Chef does not show you a page you cannot use. So when a page a colleague has is not in your sidebar, or a tab is not on your phone, it is for one of three reasons.
1. You do not hold a permission the page needs
Each page is for people who hold a particular permission. If you reach such a page by a link or an old bookmark on the web, it says No access with the page’s name, and shows:
- your level and the location you are looking at;
- under Needs, or Needs one of, the permission or permissions that open it, in the same words the Permissions tab uses;
- under Ask, who can give it to you, an Admin, and where they do it: Rota & team, Staff, your name, Permissions.
Tell an Admin the wording under Needs. They can switch it on for you if your level can hold it; see Give someone an extra permission.
2. Your level does not apply at this location
A Supervisor’s or Location Manager’s permissions count only at the locations they work at. If you have switched to a location where you are not on the staff, or you were recently moved, the manager pages go. Check the Location row at the top of the sidebar, or the location name at the top of the phone’s tabs. See Why someone cannot see a location.
3. The location has that part of the app switched off
Each location chooses which parts it uses. Where a part is off, its pages, tabs, home tiles and notifications are all out of sight there, for everyone. On the web a page from that part says, for example, “Checks aren’t switched on at” with the location’s name. It shows what the part contains and, under Switched on by, who can turn it on. If that is you, the page has a link, Switch it on. See Turn parts of the app on or off.
On the phone
The same three rules decide the tabs on the bar and the rows under Me. A tab you may use but that did not fit on the bar is not missing: look under Me, in The house. See Find your way around on the phone.
If it doesn’t work
- An Admin switched the permission on and the page is still not there
- Check the location you are looking at. The permission holds only where you work, and only where the location has that part of the app on.
- The permission you need is not in your list of switches
- Your level cannot hold it. An Admin would have to raise your level. See What each level can do.
- A page shows, but some figures or buttons are missing
- Pages leave out what you may not see or do. Pay figures, for example, need “See and edit staff pay rates”.
