Turn parts of the app on or off
Choose which parts of Yes Chef a location uses, such as Rota & Team, Checks or Tasks, and what happens to a part that is switched off.
Each location has only the parts of Yes Chef it wants. A site that does not use the app for training, say, can switch Training off, and nobody there sees it or is reminded about it. The choice is made per location, on the web.
Go to Settings, then Location settings
- Pick the location in the sidebar.
- Open Settings, then Location settings, and find the section headed What this location uses. Its corner says how many parts are on.
- Turn a part’s switch off or on. There is no save button: it says the part’s name with on or off, and the change has been made.
- A part that is off is marked Off in the list. For everyone at the location, its pages leave the sidebar and its tabs leave the phone.
The parts
- Rota & Team: rota, shifts, clock-ins, timesheets, time off, swaps, payroll, pre-shift.
- Checks: the day’s checks, history, scores, incidents, equipment, documents, the inspector pack.
- Menu: menus and items, recipes, printed menus, Sales & GP.
- Prep: the prep list and the kitchen wall screen, with the recipes they work from.
- Waste: what was thrown away, by item and by reason, and what it cost.
- Tasks: boards of loose jobs, and the ones with your name on.
- Messages: channels, direct messages, groups and broadcasts.
- Training: training tracks, sign-offs and the skills matrix.
The list also has switches for parts that are not offered to restaurants yet. They are not covered in this help centre.
Under the list, Always on names what no location can switch off: Home, the Inbox, Me, Settings and People. The staff list, people’s files and their pay are always there, whatever else a location uses.
What switching a part off does
- Its pages, tabs and home tiles go out of sight at that location, for everyone.
- It stops sending notifications and reminders there.
- Permissions that belong to it do nothing at that location.
- Nothing is deleted. Switch it back on and everything is where it was.
Before you switch a part off, look at the chips on its row. They count what is live in it, such as shifts or checks, that would go out of sight.
A new location
The same list is the second step of adding a location, headed What will this location use? A location where nobody has ever chosen has every part on. See Add a location.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no “What this location uses” section
- You do not hold “Add locations and edit their settings” at this location, so you may not change it.
- A page says a part “isn’t switched on” at the location
- That part is off there. If you may change it, the page has a link, Switch it on, to this section.
- You switched a part on and someone still cannot see it
- The part being on is not enough: they also need a permission for its pages at that location. See Why a page is missing or says “No access”.
- The other switches go grey for a moment
- One change is saved at a time. They come back as soon as it has saved.
