How locations and settings work
What a location is, what belongs to it, what is under Settings on the web and who each page is for.
On this page
Your organisation is the business. A location is one of its sites. Almost everything in Yes Chef belongs to a location, and settings are how each site is made to fit the way it works. All of it is done on the web; the iPhone app has no settings for a location.
What belongs to a location
- Its people. Each person has a home location and can be put on at others. That list is who is on a site’s staff and where a manager’s level applies. See Why someone cannot see a location.
- Its areas, positions and stations. Areas are where people work on the rota; positions are job titles; stations are places within an area for checks and training. See Set up areas, positions and stations.
- Its day. Opening hours for each weekday, and the parts of the day checks are timed by. See Set a location’s opening hours.
- Its rules. Time zone, the day the week starts, the labour target, the clock-in zone, holiday and how many can be off at once. See Change a location’s settings.
- The parts of the app it uses. See Turn parts of the app on or off.
- Its mark. The icon and colour beside its name. See Change a location’s icon and colour.
Its rota, checks, menu and till connection belong to it too; those have their own parts of this help centre.
What is under Settings
Settings is in the Back office part of the sidebar. You see only the pages you hold a permission for. Most are about the location picked in the sidebar; with All locations picked, they ask you to choose one.
- Areas & positions, Shift types, Waste reasons and Screens: need “Edit areas, positions, stations and service times”. Admins and Location Managers by default; a Supervisor can be given it.
- Till (POS): needs “See the till (POS) connection and its sales”. Admins and Location Managers.
- Location settings: needs “Add locations and edit their settings”. Admins by default; a Location Manager can be given it.
- Locations: the list of your sites, and where a new one is added.
- AI: what the AI features cost. Admins only. See See what the AI features cost.
- Event log: every change, who made it and when. Admins by default; a Location Manager can be given it. See See what changed in the event log.
Setup, beside Settings, is different: it is a checklist that appears while a location still has steps to finish. See Work through the Setup checklist.
Adding a location
A new site is added from the web in five steps and can start as a copy of one you already have. See Add a location.
What belongs to the organisation, not a location
- People’s levels and permissions. See How permissions work.
- The event log and the AI page, which cover every location.
Changes are recorded
Changing a setting takes effect at once for everyone at the location, and is kept in the event log with who made it.
