Work through the Setup checklist
Use the Setup page to get a new location ready: its team, positions, pay, first rota, menu, checks and till, step by step.
Setup is a checklist of what a location needs before it is really running. It counts what is already in Yes Chef, so most steps tick themselves off as you do the work. It is on the web only.
Go to Setup
- Pick the location in the sidebar, then open Setup under Back office. The number beside it is the steps still to do. On All locations it shows the first of your locations.
- The page opens on the first step that is still to do. The list headed Steps shows them all; press any step to open it.
- Do the step where it is shown on the page. The step’s own button, such as Staff or Areas & positions, opens the full page for it if you would rather work there.
- When what the step asks for is in place, it is ticked off by itself. One step is different: on Add your team, press That’s everyone when the whole team has been added, because only you know that.
- If a step does not apply to this location, press Not for us. It is marked Skipped. Bring back returns it to the list.
- When no steps are left the page says All set. and Setup leaves the sidebar.
The steps
- Location: Location details.
- Team: Add your team, Positions, Areas per person, Position per person, Contract hours per person and Pay per person.
- Rota: Publish a rota, one week sent to the team.
- Menu: Add your menu, at least one item on a menu that is switched on.
- Checks: Checks, Equipment and Documents.
- Till: Connect your till.
Beside each step is how far along it is: a count of what has been added, or, for a step about each person, how many of the team have it, such as 4/12.
What can and cannot be skipped
Location details and Add your team cannot be skipped. Every other step can. A step you skipped is still ticked off if the work gets done later: what is in Yes Chef wins.
On Add your team, Not everyone yet takes back That’s everyone if more people are still to come.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no Setup in the sidebar
- Either the location has no steps left, or you do not hold “Edit areas, positions, stations and service times” there. Check which location is picked.
- “Nothing to set up here.”
- You opened the page at a location you do not run. Pick one you do in the sidebar.
- A step stays to do although you did the work
- Look at its count. A step about each person is done only when everyone on the team has it. Publish a rota shows Draft while a week has been started and not published; see Publish the rota.
