How Yes Chef is organised

The ideas behind the app in one page: organisation and locations, the four levels, parts of the app, and the web and the iPhone.

Who can do this: Everyone

On this page

Yes Chef is one app for running a restaurant: the rota, the team, checks, the menu, tasks and messages. This page explains the few ideas the rest of the help centre takes for granted.

You join by invitation

We set each restaurant up, and staff join when their manager invites them. There is no sign-up form. If you have an invitation email, start with Sign in for the first time.

An organisation and its locations

Your business is the organisation. Each site it runs is a location, with its own rota, checks, areas and settings. Every person has a home location and can be put on at others. Most pages show one location at a time, and you choose which. See Switch location.

Four levels

Everyone has one level: Admin, Location Manager, Supervisor or Employee. The level decides what you may do to begin with, and an Admin can switch single permissions on or off for one person. A page you may not use is not shown to you. See How permissions work.

Parts of the app

Each location chooses which parts it uses, such as Rota & Team, Checks, Menu, Tasks and Messages. A part that is switched off is out of sight there and sends no notifications; nothing is deleted. Home, the Inbox, your own profile, Settings and the staff list are always there. See Turn parts of the app on or off.

The web and the iPhone

The web app, at app.yeschefhub.com, has everything, including settings and set-up. The iPhone app is for the day itself: your shifts, clocking in, checks, messages and what needs you. Both use the same sign-in and show the same information. There is no Android app.

How Yes Chef tells you things

Everything the app has to tell you lands in your inbox, on the web and on the phone. With notifications on, the phone also shows it on the lock screen. See Read your inbox.

Setting up a new location

A new location is added from the web, and a checklist called Setup then walks whoever runs it through the team, the first rota, the menu, checks and the till. See Add a location and Work through the Setup checklist.

If you are stuck

Ask your manager first: most questions are about what you have been given access to. For anything else, write to omar@1273.co.uk.
