Find your way around on the web
What is in the sidebar of the web app, how its sections fold open, and why some pages are not in yours.
On this page
Everything in the web app is reached from the sidebar on the left. There is no bar across the top and pages have no tabs of their own.
The top of the sidebar
- The bell opens your Inbox. The number on it is what you have not read. It turns red while something that cannot wait is unread. See Read your inbox.
- The card under the logo has two rows: Organisation and Location. The location you pick there is the one every page shows. See Switch location.
- Ask Yes Chef opens the chat beside the page, if you may use it at this location.
The sections
The list is in three parts.
- Today: Home, Pre-shift, Messages and Tasks.
- The house: Rota & team, Checks and Menu.
- Back office: Setup, while a location still has set-up steps left, and Settings.
A section with one page is a plain link. A section with several folds open to list them. Press the section’s name to go to its first page, or the small arrow beside it to show or hide its pages without leaving where you are. The section you are in is open; moving to another one opens it and shuts the rest.
A number beside a section or a page is what is waiting there: unread messages, time off to approve, checks that are overdue.
The foot of the sidebar
- The card with your name opens the account menu. My profile is in it. See Edit your profile.
- The sun or moon beside it changes the theme. See Switch between light and dark.
- Coming soon names parts of Yes Chef that are not built yet. They are not links.
Give a table more room
On a wide window, the double arrow at the top of the sidebar (Shrink the sidebar) folds it down to a narrow rail of icons. Each icon goes to the first page of its section. The double arrow at the top of the rail (Open the sidebar) brings it back. Your choice is remembered in this browser.
On a narrow window
On a phone’s browser or a narrow window the sidebar is hidden. A slim bar across the top has the menu button, the name of the section and page you are on, and the bell. Press the menu button and the sidebar slides in over the page. It closes when you follow a link.
If it doesn’t work
- A page someone else has is not in your sidebar
- You do not hold a permission that page needs at this location. See Why a page is missing or says “No access”.
- A page you had yesterday has gone
- Check the Location row. Pages follow the location you have picked, and your level applies only at the locations you work at.
- The page says a part “isn’t switched on” at this location
- That part of the app is off for the location. Someone who may edit the location’s settings can switch it on. See Turn parts of the app on or off.
