Read your inbox

Where your notifications are kept on the web and the iPhone, what Now, To do, For you, Chat and FYI mean, and how to mark things read.

Who can do this: Everyone

Web and iPhoneChecked

On this page

The inbox is the one list of everything Yes Chef has told you: a rota going out, a check falling due, an answer to your time off, a message. It is the same list on the web and on the phone, and reading something in one place marks it read in the other.

The five kinds of notice

Every notice is filed by what it wants of you. The filters use these words.

  • Now: it cannot wait. A check is overdue or a reading has failed, or a shift today needs cover. Shown in red.
  • To do: something is waiting on you, such as a request to approve or a check that is due.
  • For you: news about your own work, such as a new rota, a changed shift or an answer to a request. Nothing waits on it.
  • Chat: messages and mentions.
  • FYI: nothing to do. On the phone these arrive without a sound.

On the web

  1. Press the bell at the top of the sidebar. The number on it is what you have not read; it is red while something under Now is unread.
  2. The Inbox page lists the newest hundred, unread first. To narrow it, press a filter above the list: All, or one of the five kinds. A filter appears only when you have something in it.
  3. Press a row. It opens what the notice is about, such as the time-off request or the check, and marks it read.
  4. To clear without opening, press Mark all read. With a filter on, it marks only that kind. Or tick the rows you want and press Mark read.

While the web app is open, a notice under Now or For you also appears as a small message on the page as it arrives. The web app does not send notifications to your computer when it is closed.

On the phone

  1. Open the Inbox tab. If it is not on your bar, press the bell at the top of the home screen, or Inbox under Me.
  2. Unread notices are under New, with anything that cannot wait first. What you have read is under Earlier.
  3. Press a notice to open what it is about. It is marked read. To mark one read without opening it, swipe it to the left.
  4. Press Mark all read beside New to clear the list. With a filter on, it clears only that kind.

The box labelled Find a notification searches the list, and the filters along the top narrow it the same way as on the web.

What happens next

When there is nothing unread, the count on the bell goes and the list says All caught up. To get notices on your lock screen as well, see Turn notifications on on your phone.

If it doesn’t work

The inbox is empty but your phone never buzzes either
Notifications are off for the app on this phone. Open Me and look at the Notifications row under This phone.
You get nothing about checks, or nothing about the rota
A location that has switched a part of the app off sends no notices for it.
An older notice is not in the list on the web
The page shows the newest hundred. Pick a filter to see the newest hundred of that kind.
