Who can do this: Whoever can edit staff records at the location: Location Managers and Admins by default (the “Edit staff details and where they work” permission); a Supervisor can be given it.

On this page

Each location has its own checklist for new starters. Until you change it, it is the ten-line list Yes Chef starts every location with. It is changed on the web.

On the web

Go to Rota & team, then Staff

  1. Pick the location in the sidebar and press New starters & reviews at the top of the page. Scroll to Onboarding checklist. The same section is at the bottom of the location’s own settings page, for people who can open it.
  2. To add a line, type it in Add a line and press Add. A new line starts as due in the first week and a manager’s.
  3. On each line, choose when it is due (Before day one, First shift, First week or First month) and whose it is (Them or A manager).
  4. Use the small arrows to move a line up or down, type over its words to rename it, or press the cross to remove it.
  5. Check the picture on the right, Someone starting today. It shows the checklist as a starter would get it, stage by stage, with the date each stage falls due.
  6. Press Save. It says Checklist saved.

Lines the app ticks itself

Six of the starting lines follow the person’s record instead of being ticked by hand: right to work, bank and tax details, app set up, emergency contact, first training started and probation set. Each shows what it reads. You can move one, change when it is due, or remove it, but you cannot retype it or change whose it is. One you have removed is offered back as a chip beside Ticks itself: press it to put it back.

Switch the checklist off

Turn off New starters get the checklist and save. People who join the location from then on are not put on one. Anyone already on a checklist stays on it, and you can still start one for a single person from their record.

What happens next

The next person to join the location gets the new list. To go back to the starting ten lines, press Reset to the house list and save. To use a checklist, see Work through a new starter’s onboarding checklist.

If it doesn’t work

There is no “New starters & reviews” button
The web is set to all locations, or you cannot edit staff records at this one. Pick one location in the sidebar. If the button reads Pay reviews, you can set pay there but cannot edit records, and the checklist is not yours to change.
“A checklist has 30 lines at most.”
Remove a line before adding another. The box for adding disappears at thirty.
“A line needs a name.”
A line has been left empty. Type its words or remove it. A line is 60 characters at most.
Save is greyed out
Nothing has changed since the last save.
“Couldn’t save the checklist”
The save was refused. The usual cause is “You can’t change the checklist here.”: your permission to edit records at this location has been taken away since you opened the page.
