Bring the menu in from the till
Turn the products on your SumUp POS Pro till into a menu in Yes Chef: add them to a menu, replace the menu, or leave the menu as it is.
Once a till is connected, Yes Chef has its list of products. You can bring that list in as dishes on a menu, so you do not type the menu twice. Nothing is written until the last button, and nothing on the till is ever changed.
The three choices
- Leave The menu stays as it is. Sales still arrive.
- Add to menu The products you tick are added to a menu you already have. What is on that menu is not changed, and a dish it already has is not added again.
- Replace menu A new menu is made from the products you tick and switched on, and every other menu at the location is switched off. No menu is deleted: the old ones can be switched back on.
If the location has no menu yet, the choice is Leave or Bring in.
On the web
Go to Settings, then Till (POS)
- Press Bring in menu. (The same panel opens as the third step when you first connect a till, and from From the till on the Menu page.)
- The Bring in step lists what the till holds: Sales, Menu with the number of products, Staff with the number of logins, and Costs if the till has cost prices. While the list is being fetched it says Reading the till.
- On the Menu row, pick Add to menu or Replace menu. If you have several menus and are adding, pick which one. Small counts appear: how many are new, already on the menu, at £0, and so on.
- Press Next. The Menu step shows the menu the till’s list would make, a category at a time.
- Tick what you want. New dishes arrive ticked. These arrive unticked, each with a tag saying why: £0, Other menu, Not on menu, a dish that looks like one you already have, and Not a dish. A dish tagged On menu is already there and cannot be ticked.
- Each category has an Upsell switch, set to a guess: turn it on for categories you want staff to offer from (sides, desserts, drinks).
- If you are replacing, type a Menu name, or keep the one suggested.
- Press Bring in, which shows the number ticked. It says Menu brought in.
What happens next
- The Done step counts what was brought in, with ways on to Menu, Match staff and Sales & GP.
- Each new dish is matched to the till product it came from, so its sales are counted against it in Sales & GP straight away.
- Products that are the same dish in different sizes are folded into one dish and tagged with the number of variants.
- Prices come from the till. Check them on the Menu page, along with anything tagged Category guessed: the till gave it no category, so Yes Chef guessed one.
- On a very large till the dishes are written in batches. The panel says how many are still coming in.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no Bring in menu button
- You need both “Edit menus and items” and “See the till (POS) connection and its sales” here, and the till has to be connected and signed in. A till showing Sign in again has no list to bring in.
- “Last read failed”, or the product count never appears
- The till’s product list could not be read. Press Retry. You can choose Leave and finish in the meantime.
- “Still bringing in”
- An earlier import is still being written. Wait for it to finish before starting another.
- “Choose a menu” or “Menu not found”
- You are adding and have several menus: pick the one to add to. If the menu was deleted in another window, pick again.
