Connect a SumUp POS Pro till

Sign in to your SumUp POS Pro store from Yes Chef, pick the outlet for the location, and start sales arriving every ten minutes.

Who can do this: Admins by default (the “Connect or change the till (POS)” permission); a Location Manager can be given it. Supervisors and Employees cannot.

On this page

Connecting the till is done on the web, once for each location. Yes Chef only reads from the till: it never changes a product, a price or a sale there. SumUp POS Pro is the only till that can be connected today.

Before you start

  • Your store’s name. It is the first part of the address of your SumUp POS Pro back office, before .thegoodtill.com. You can paste the whole address and Yes Chef cuts it down to the name.
  • A back-office user to sign in as. The form suggests Admin user · made for Yes Chef: an admin user on the till, created for this, that can see sales. An ordinary staff login will be refused.
  • The store has to trade in pounds.

On the web

Go to Settings, then Till (POS)

  1. Pick the location in the sidebar, then open Till (POS). Under Tills, beside SumUp POS Pro, press Connect.
  2. A panel opens: Connect SumUp POS Pro, with five steps along the top: Sign in, Outlet, Bring in, Menu, Done.
  3. Type the Store name, the Username and the Password, and press Sign in. The password is marked Used once · not stored: it is handed to the till to sign in and Yes Chef keeps only the access the till gives back.
  4. If the store has more than one outlet, pick the one this location is and press Connect. With one outlet, it is chosen for you.
  5. It says Till connected and moves on to Bring in, where you choose whether the till’s products become your menu. You can choose Leave and press Done to finish now. See Bring the menu in from the till.

What happens next

  • The page shows the till’s state in a coloured band. Connected in green means it is being read.
  • New sales are read every ten minutes. Sync now reads them straight away.
  • Up to 400 days of past sales are fetched in the background. A bar under the tiles shows how far it has got (History, so many of 400 days). While totals are being added up the band says Working out totals.
  • Four tiles show Outlet, Synced, Sales today and Sold today, and Latest sales lists the most recent sales.
  • Sales now feed the home page’s figures, Insights, Sales & GP and Performance.

Next, say whose each till login is, so sales are credited to the right people: Match till logins to people.

Disconnecting

On the same page, Disconnect asks Disconnect the till? Sales already read stay. New sales stop arriving.

If it doesn’t work

There is no Connect button
You can see the till page but do not hold “Connect or change the till (POS)”. An Admin has it by default and can give it to a Location Manager.
There is no Till (POS) page
Seeing it needs “See the till (POS) connection and its sales”, which Location Managers and Admins have by default.
“Store not found”
The store name is not one the till knows. Copy it from the address bar of your back office: the part before .thegoodtill.com.
“Sign-in failed”
The username or password is wrong for that store.
“Needs an admin user”
The till signed you in, but the user is not an admin there. Use an admin user.
“This user can’t see sales”
The user has no access to sales reports on the till. Give it that access in the back office, or use another user.
“Store is not in pounds”
Yes Chef reads stores that trade in pounds only.
“Till not responding” or “Till refused”
The till’s service did not answer, or turned the request down. Wait a few minutes and try again.
“No outlets on this store”
The store has no outlet to connect. Check the store in the back office.
“This location already has a till”
Disconnect the one it has first, or pick a different location.
“Outlet already connected elsewhere”
That outlet is connected to another location. Pick the outlet that belongs to this one.
