See what sold and its GP
Read the Sales & GP report: what each dish sold, its share of sales, its margin where the till has a cost, and which dishes are flagged.
On this page
Sales & GP is the till’s sales by dish. It needs a connected till. GP is worked out only for products that have a cost price on the till: Yes Chef does not work costs out from recipes or stock.
On the web
Go to Menu, then Sales & GP
- Pick the location in the sidebar. The report is for one location at a time.
- Pick the period: This week, Last week or 4 weeks.
- Read the four figures at the top: Net sales, Sold, GP and Flagged.
- Under them, Categories totals each category and Items lists every dish. Click a column heading to sort; use Search items to find one. Press Flagged to show only the flagged dishes.
On the phone
Open Me, then Sales & GP. It is the same report, for the same people, to read. Matching products, the GP target and the categories are set on the web.
The figures at the top
- Net sales What the items sold for, after discounts, without VAT. Where the till’s own total for the period is different, it is shown beside it as Till with the amount.
- Sold How many items, across how many different items.
- GP Gross profit as a percentage of net sales, over the sales that have a cost. The note underneath says how much of your sales that covers, for example “62% costed”. A GP read off a small costed share says little about the whole menu.
- Flagged How many dishes have a flag, and how many till products are still unmatched.
The columns
- Sold and Sales for the period, and Share: the dish’s share of net sales.
- Sold vs last and Sales vs last: the change on the period before, of the same length.
- Price: the average actually paid, VAT included. Cost: the till’s cost price for one.
- GP % and GP: the margin on the dish, as a percentage and in pounds.
- Price at your target: the menu price, VAT included and rounded up to the next 5p, that would give the target GP at that cost.
Some columns are hidden to begin with. The table’s column menu shows or hides them, and the table can be exported.
What the flags mean
- No sales On an active menu, on the till, and nobody ordered it in the period.
- Slow It sold less than 70% of an even share of its category. Only judged in categories of three items or more.
- Low GP Its GP % is under your target.
- Weak Both slow and low on GP.
No sales and Slow are not given until the period has three days of trading in it, so a Monday morning does not flag most of the menu.
Set the GP target
Target GP at the top of the page starts at 70%. Type a new percentage and press Enter. It says GP target saved, and Low GP and the Price at column follow it. The target is for the location.
Food, drink and other
The report splits sales into Food, Drink and Other. Yes Chef guesses which each till category is. To correct one, press Categories at the top and set what that category sells; Reset puts the guess back.
If it doesn’t work
- “No till connected.”
- The report needs a till. The page has a link to Till (POS).
- “You can’t see this location’s sales.”
- You do not hold “See the till (POS) connection and its sales” at this location.
- “Working out totals”
- The till’s history is still being added up after connecting. Come back in a few minutes.
- GP shows a dash
- No product in that row has a cost price on the till. Add cost prices in the till’s back office; they are picked up when the till’s products are next read.
- “Target is 1–99%”
- The GP target has to be between 1 and 99.
- “No sales in this period.”
- The till took nothing in the period picked, or the history has not reached it yet.
