How sales and the till work
The ideas behind sales in Yes Chef: where the figures come from, what a sale counts as, the two kinds of matching, and who sees what.
On this page
Yes Chef does not take payments and is not a till. It reads the sales your till has already rung and uses them across the app: beside the rota, on Home, in the menu report and for each person.
Where the figures come from
One till per location, connected once on the web. Today that till is SumUp POS Pro. Yes Chef only ever reads from it. New sales are read every ten minutes, and up to 400 days of history are fetched when you connect. Sales from the last seven days are read again each night, so a void or refund entered late is picked up.
What a sale counts as
- Sales are net. After discounts, without VAT. Some pages show the same figure with VAT beside it, for checking against the till’s own report.
- A voided sale counts for nothing.
- Covers are the guests entered on the sale at the till. If your team do not enter covers, covers and spend per head will be empty.
- A sale belongs to whoever rang it: the till login on the sale.
Two kinds of matching
The till has its own names for things. Matching ties them to yours.
- Logins to people. Which person each till login is, so their sales are credited to them. A login several people use is marked shared.
- Products to menu items. Which dish on your menu each till product is, so Sales & GP reports by dish. A product that is not a dish is marked Not on menu.
Both have an Auto-match that pairs things with the same name, and both leave the rest for you. Nothing you match changes the till.
GP needs costs on the till
Gross profit is worked out from the cost price each product has on the till. Yes Chef has no stock control and does not cost recipes for this. Products without a cost are left out of GP, and the report says what share of sales is costed.
Who sees what
- Sales and hours on Home, Insights and the phone’s Hub: people who build the rota. Supervisors, Location Managers and Admins by default.
- Wages and labour %: only people who may see pay rates. Location Managers and Admins by default.
- The Till page and Sales & GP: Location Managers and Admins.
- Connecting or changing the till: Admins, unless a Location Manager is given it.
- Team performance: Supervisors, Location Managers and Admins by default. Everyone can ask about their own sales.
