See who has read a message

Check how many people have seen your message, and open the list of who has and who has not.

Who can do this: Whoever sent the message. In a team chat or a group, people with the “Create and manage group chats, and remove messages” permission can check anyone’s message.

On this page

Under your latest message in a chat, beside its time, Yes Chef shows how many of the other people have seen it, for example “Seen 4”. Nothing is shown until at least one person has.

See the names

On the web

  1. Point at the message and press the three dots beside it.
  2. Choose Seen by.
  3. The box lists people under Seen and Not yet, each with a count.

On the phone

  1. Press and hold the message.
  2. Choose Seen by.
  3. The sheet lists people under Seen and Not yet.

What counts as seen

Someone has seen a message when they have opened the chat since it was sent. On the web the chat has to be open with its browser tab in view. Yes Chef does not record which single messages a person looked at, only when they last had the chat open, so opening the chat counts for everything in it.

If you need a firm answer from each person, use a broadcast and ask for confirmation: see Send a broadcast.

If it doesn’t work

There is no “Seen by” in the menu
The list is for your own messages. On other people’s messages it is for people who manage messages in that team chat or group. In a direct chat nobody manages messages, so only the sender can open it.
An older message of yours shows no “Seen”
The count is drawn under your latest message only. Use Seen by on the older one.
