Send a message
Write in a chat on the web or the iPhone, attach photos and files, record a voice message, and edit or delete what you sent.
On this page
Every location has a team chat that everyone who works there is in. You can also have direct chats and group chats. All of them are under Messages.
On the web
Go to Messages
- Pick a chat from the list on the left. The keys above the list (All, Unread, Direct, Groups, Teams) narrow it, and the box marked Search chats and messages finds a chat by name or a message by its words.
- Type in the box marked Message at the foot of the chat. Shift and Enter start a new line.
- To add a photo, video or file, press the paperclip, paste it in, or drag it onto the chat (it says Drop to attach).
- Press Enter, or the arrow key beside the box. Your message appears at the foot of the chat.
On the phone
- Open the Messages tab and tap a chat. The top of the tab says how many chats have something unread, or All read.
- Type in the box marked Message.
- To add something, press the paperclip and choose Photos and videos, Camera or Files.
- Press the send key. Your message appears at the foot of the chat.
What you can attach
- Up to 6 attachments on one message.
- A photo up to 15 MB, a video up to 50 MB, any other file up to 25 MB.
- A message can be up to 4,000 characters.
Photos, videos, files and voice messages are deleted after 30 days unless someone keeps them. See Keep a photo or file.
Record a voice message
While the box is empty and nothing is attached, the send key is a microphone. Press it to start recording. A voice message can run for up to 5 minutes.
- Press the send key to send it, or the bin to throw it away.
- On the web, Esc also throws it away.
- If it reaches 5 minutes it stops by itself and says Limit reached. It is not sent until you press the send key.
Edit or delete a message
- On the web, point at the message, press the three dots beside it and choose Edit or Delete.
- On the phone, press and hold the message and choose Edit or Delete.
You can edit only your own messages, and only the words. An edited message is marked Edited. A deleted one leaves a line that says Message deleted, and its photos and files are deleted with it.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no Messages page or tab
- Messages is switched off at the locations you work at. An Admin decides which parts of Yes Chef each location uses.
- “Only managers can post here”
- This team chat has been set to announcements only. You can still read it, react, and confirm broadcasts. Message a person directly instead: see Start a chat or a group.
- “Archived”
- The group has been archived. Its messages can still be read, but nothing new can be sent to it.
- “Nobody here any more”
- Everyone else in this direct chat has left the business.
- “Over 15 MB”, “Over 50 MB” or “Over 25 MB”
- The photo, video or file is bigger than a message can carry. Send a smaller one.
- “Up to 6 attachments”
- Take one off, or send the rest in a second message.
- “Too short” or “Nothing recorded”
- The voice message was under half a second, or nothing was picked up. Record it again.
- On the web: “Microphone blocked” or “No microphone found”
- Your browser has not been allowed to use a microphone for this site, or the computer has none. Allow it in the browser’s site settings and try again.
- On the phone: “Microphone off”
- Yes Chef is not allowed to use the microphone. Turn it on in the iPhone’s Settings, under Yes Chef, then Microphone.
- There is no microphone key on the web
- Your browser cannot record. Use another browser, or send the voice message from the phone.
