Add a checklist to a task
Break a task into steps that are ticked off one at a time, and see on the card how far along it is.
A checklist is a list of steps inside one task. A task has one checklist, of up to 50 items.
On the web
Go to Tasks, then Boards
- Open the board and press the task’s card.
- Under Checklist, press Item.
- Type the step where it says Add an item and press Enter. It says Item added. The field stays open: type the next one, or press Esc.
- Tick an item’s box when it is done.
To change an item’s wording, click the text, type, and click away. To change the order, point at an item and drag it by the handle that appears at its left. To remove one, point at it and press the bin at its right. It says Item removed.
On the phone
- Open Me, then Tasks, and open the task.
- Under Checklist, type the step where it says Add an item, then press return on the keyboard or Add. It says Item added.
- Press an item to tick it. Press it again to untick it.
To remove an item, press the bin at the end of its row. Rewording an item and changing the order are done on the web.
What happens next
The task shows how many items are ticked, for example “2/5”, with a bar that fills as you go. The same count is on the card on the board, and it turns green when every item is ticked. Ticking the last item does not mark the task done: tick the task itself when the job is finished.
If it doesn’t work
- There is nowhere to add another item
- The checklist has its 50 items. Remove one, or put the rest in a second task.
- An item you ticked has come unticked, or the other way round
- Someone else changed it. Everyone who can open the task shares one checklist, and it updates for all of you as it changes.
