Add notes and comments to a task
Write the detail of a job in its notes, talk about it in comments, and read the log of everything done to it.

Notes are the standing description of the job: anyone can rewrite them. Comments are the conversation: each one is signed and timed, and the people involved are told.
Write the notes
On the web
Go to Tasks, then Boards
- Open the board and press the task’s card.
- Under Notes, click where it says Add notes and type.
- Click away to save. There is no save button. Press Esc while typing to put the notes back as they were.
The title is changed the same way: click it, type, and press Enter or click away.
On the phone
- Open Me, then Tasks, and open the task.
- Press where it says Notes, under the title, and type.
- Press somewhere else on the screen. The notes are saved as you leave the field.
Comment
Comment on the web
- With the task open, type in the Comment box at the foot of the panel.
- Press Enter to send. Shift with Enter starts a new line.
Your comment joins the Log above the box, under your name.
Comment on the phone
- With the task open, type in Comment at the foot of the screen and press the send key beside it.
Your comment joins Activity at the foot of the task, marked You.
What happens next
A comment is sent to the people assigned to the task, the person who made it, and anyone who has already commented on it. It reaches their inbox, and their phone if notifications are on, as your first name and the start of what you wrote. See What Yes Chef tells you about tasks. Read the log
The same list holds what has been done to the task, oldest first, between the comments: who was put on it or taken off, a new due day, each move to another list, and who marked it done, reopened it, archived it or restored it. On the web it is headed Log; on the phone, Activity.
Delete a comment
You can delete your own comments. On the web, point at the comment and press the bin beside its time. On the phone, press the bin on the comment, then Delete when it asks Delete this comment?. It says Comment deleted. People with the “Create and edit boards and lists, and delete tasks” permission for the board can delete anyone’s comment.
If it doesn’t work
- What you typed came back into the box, with “Couldn’t send the comment” or “Couldn’t send”
- The comment did not reach Yes Chef. Your words are kept in the box: check your connection and send again.
- The comment or the notes stop as you type
- A comment holds 4,000 characters and the notes hold 10,000.
- There is no bin on a comment
- It is someone else’s, and you cannot manage this board.
- The title went back to what it was
- A title cannot be left empty.
