Link a task to something in the app

Point a task at the piece of equipment, person, menu item, document or page it is about, so it opens from the task.

Who can do this: Anyone who can open the task. On the web, adding a link also needs you to be able to see the task’s board. The kinds of thing offered depend on what you are allowed to see.

A link ties a task to a record in Yes Chef: “Fix the door seal” to the walk-in fridge in your equipment list. A task takes up to 20 links, of five kinds: Equipment, Person, Menu item, Document and Page.

On the web

Go to Tasks, then Boards

  1. Open the board and press the task’s card.
  2. Under Links, press Link.
  3. Choose the kind of thing.
  4. Type to search, then press the one you want. For Page there is no search: pick from the list. It says Link added.

Press a link to open what it points at. To take one off, point at it and press the cross at its right. It says Link removed.

On the phone

  1. Open the task and scroll to Links.
  2. Press Add link.
  3. Press the kind of thing at the top of the sheet, search if you need to, and press the one you want. It says Link added.

Press a link to open it. A link with no arrow has nowhere to open on the phone: a menu item, for example, opens on the web only. To take a link off, press the cross at the end of its row.

A task raised as an action from a check carries a link marked Check, which opens the check it came from. A task made from a meeting’s to-do carries a link to the meeting. These say why the task exists, and cannot be taken off.

If it doesn’t work

A kind is missing from the list
You are offered only the kinds you may see at the board’s location. Without access to the documents list, for example, Document is not offered.
“Nothing found”, or “No one called …”
Nothing of that kind matches what you typed among the things you may see. Try fewer letters.
A link is struck through
What it pointed at has been deleted. Take the link off.
There is no “Link” under Links on the web
The task has its 20 links, or you were given this task on a board you cannot see.
“A task takes 20 links at most”
Take one off before adding another.
