Create a board
Start a board for a kind of job, choose whether it belongs to one location or the whole business, and who can see it.
On this page
A board holds the tasks for one kind of job: repairs, menu development, a general to-do. It starts with three lists, To do, Doing and Done.
On the web
Go to Tasks, then Boards
- In the sidebar, pick the location the board is for.
- Press New board.
- Type a Name, or press one of the suggestions under the field: Repairs, Menu development or To-do.
- Under Where, choose the location or Whole business. This is shown only if you can make both kinds.
- Under Who it’s for, choose Everyone or Managers.
- Press Add board. It says Board added and the new board opens.
When there are no boards yet, the page says No boards yet and shows the same three suggestions. One press on a suggestion makes that board, for everyone, and opens it.
On the phone
- Open Me, then Tasks.
- Under Boards, press New board.
- If you can make both kinds, choose the location or Whole business at the top. The location is the one your phone is showing.
- Tick Managers only if the board is not for everyone.
- Press Repairs, Menu development or To-do to make that board in one press. Or type a name where it says Or name your own and press Make board.
- It says Board made and the new board opens.
Who sees the board
- A location’s board, for everyone: everybody with the “See task boards, add tasks and comment” permission at that location. Employees have it by default.
- A whole-business board, for everyone: everybody with that permission at any location.
- A board for managers: only people with the “Create and edit boards and lists, and delete tasks” permission there. It is marked Managers.
Anyone assigned to a task can open that one task whatever the board, but not the rest of a board they cannot see.
Rename a board, or change who it is for
This is done on the web. Open the board. To rename it, click its name at the top, type, and press Enter. It says Board renamed. To change who sees it, press the three dots at the top right and choose Everyone or Managers under Who it’s for. It says Managers only or Open to everyone.
Next: set up the lists, then add the first task.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no “New board”
- You do not have the “Create and edit boards and lists, and delete tasks” permission. On the web, a location’s board also needs that location picked in the sidebar: with All locations picked, you can only make a whole-business board, and only if your permission allows it.
- “Couldn’t add the board” or “Couldn’t make the board”
- You do not hold the permission at the location you chose, or the name is too long. A board’s name holds 60 characters.
- A colleague cannot see the new board
- Check who it is for and where it belongs. A board for one location is not shown to people who work only at another.
