Add a task

Put a job on one of your boards from the web or the iPhone, so it can be given to someone and ticked off.

Who can do this: Everyone by default (the “See task boards, add tasks and comment” permission), on any board they can see.

A task is one job on a board: “Fix the walk-in door seal”, “Order new aprons”. It sits in one of the board’s lists. A task needs only a title; who it is for and when it is due are added afterwards.

On the web

Go to Tasks, then Boards

  1. Open the board the job belongs on.
  2. At the foot of the list you want, press Add a task.
  3. Type what needs doing and press Enter. It says Task added and the card is at the foot of the list.
  4. The field stays open for the next one. Press Esc when you have finished.
  5. To say who it is for or when it is due, press the card. It opens in a panel at the side.

On the phone

Open Me, then Tasks. There are two ways to add one.

Inside a board

  1. Under Boards, open the board.
  2. The board’s lists are in a row across the top. Press the list the task belongs in.
  3. Type in Add a task at the foot of the screen and press the plus beside it. It says Task added, and the field is ready for the next one.

Without opening a board

  1. On the Tasks screen, press the plus at the top. A sheet headed Add a task opens.
  2. Type the job where it says What needs doing.
  3. If you have more than one board, pick one under Board. Pick where it goes under List. It starts on the board’s first list that is not a done list.
  4. On me starts ticked, which gives the task to you. Untick it to leave the task with nobody on it.
  5. Press Add task. It says Task added, with the board and the list.

What happens next

The task is on the board for everyone who can see that board. Nobody is told about a new task by itself. People are told when they are put on it. A task added on the web has nobody on it until you add them.

If it doesn’t work

There is no Tasks in the sidebar, or no Tasks row under Me
You do not have the “See task boards, add tasks and comment” permission at this location, or Tasks is not switched on there. Ask an Admin.
The board has no “Add a task”, or it says “That board has been archived”
The board has been archived, and an archived board takes no new tasks. Someone who can manage boards can restore it.
There are no boards at all
Nobody has made one yet. See Create a board. That takes a manager’s permission.
The plus is missing from the top of the Tasks screen on the phone
It is shown once there is at least one board you can see.
The title stops as you type
A title holds 200 characters. Put the detail in the task’s notes.
