What Yes Chef tells you about tasks
The six notices tasks send, who gets each one and when, and why you might not have been told about something.
Task notices arrive in your inbox, on the web and on the iPhone, and as an alert on your phone if notifications are on. Pressing one opens the task. You are never sent a notice about something you did yourself.
The notices
- You are put on a task. Sent to you when someone else assigns you. It says who: “Assigned by Sam”.
- Someone comments. Sent to the people on the task, the person who made it, and anyone who has commented on it before. It shows the commenter’s first name and the start of the comment.
- A task is due today. Sent to the people on the task at 9 in the morning on its due day, by the clock at the board’s location: “Due today”.
- A task is overdue. Sent to the people on the task at 9 the morning after its due day, if it is still open, with the day it was due. It is sent once, not every day.
- A task is done. Sent to the person who made it and the other people on it when someone ticks it: “Done by Sam”.
- A board is archived. Sent once to each person with an open task on that board, saying who archived it and how many of their tasks are on it.
Nothing is sent when a task is added with nobody on it, moved between ordinary lists, renamed, given notes, labels or links, marked urgent, reopened, or restored.
Notices clear themselves
When a task is ticked done or archived, the unread notices about it are marked read for everyone, so your inbox does not chase finished work. The count beside My tasks in the web sidebar is separate: it is the number of your open tasks that are due today or overdue. See See your own tasks.
If it doesn’t work
- You were not reminded about a due task
- Reminders go only to people assigned to the task. Check your name is on it. A due day set after 9 in the morning for the same day has missed that morning’s reminder. Tasks on an archived board send no reminders.
- You were not told about a comment
- You are told once you are on the task, made it, or have commented on it. Reading a task does not make you follow it.
- Notices reach your inbox but your phone stays quiet
- The phone’s alerts depend on notifications being allowed for Yes Chef on that phone. The inbox has them either way.
- Nobody at a location gets task reminders
- Reminders are sent only for locations where Tasks is switched on. Ask an Admin.
