Add a recipe
Write a recipe into the book as stages, with the minutes each takes and how long it then looks after itself, so the prep list can be worked a stage at a time.
The recipe book is what the prep list is made from. Each location has its own. The book is on the web; on the phone a recipe is read from the prep item made from it.
On the web
Go to Menu, then Recipes
- Press New recipe, type its name and press Add. It says Recipe added and the recipe opens at the side. In an empty book, press Blank recipe instead.
- On Method, type the first stage into the box and press Enter. Carry on down: the box stays for the next one. Later, Stage adds another.
- For each stage, fill in the minutes. Hands-on is how long someone is working on it. Then waits is how long it then looks after itself: a simmer, a chill, a prove.
- Where a stage waits, say what it is doing under While it waits, such as “Simmering”. That is the word shown beside its countdown.
- On Ingredients, type an amount and an ingredient and press Enter for each.
- On Details, fill in Makes (for example “4 litres”) and any Notes, press the recipe’s Allergens, and under Goes into press Dish to link the menu items it is used in.
There is no save button. Each thing is kept as you change it. To reorder stages, drag a stage by its handle.
What a wait does on the prep list
When someone ticks a stage that has minutes under Then waits, the prep item goes On the go with a countdown and needs nobody. When the time is up it turns Ready, in amber, at the top of the list, until someone picks it up. The box labelled On the prep list beside the method draws this for your recipe. Yes Chef also uses the minutes to suggest what to start first. See Tick off the prep list.
Copy, archive and restore
At the foot of Details, Duplicate makes a copy to work from, and Archive takes the recipe out of the book without deleting it. Above the table, Archive shows what has been archived; open one and press Restore to put it back. You can also tick several rows and archive or restore them together.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no New recipe button, and nothing can be typed
- You can read the book but not change it. That takes the “Edit menus and items” permission at this location.
- “There’s already a recipe called …”
- Two recipes in one book cannot share a name. Give it another, or open the one that is there.
- “A location has 300 recipes at most. Archive some first”
- The book is full. Archive recipes you no longer use.
- “A recipe has 30 stages at most”
- Join some short stages into one. A recipe also holds 60 ingredients at most, and one stage can take three days at most.
- “That dish isn’t on this location’s menu”
- The dish was removed. Search the menu again under Goes into.
- “Pick a location to see its recipes.”
- The web is on all locations. Pick one location at the top of the sidebar.
