Add to the prep list
Put one thing, or a whole list at once, on the kitchen’s prep list from the web or the iPhone, with how much, by when and who it is for.
The prep list is what one kitchen has to make. Only what is not done is on it, and anything not done today is still there tomorrow. Each location has its own list.
On the web
Go to Menu, then Prep list
One thing
- Press Add. A box headed Add to the prep list opens.
- Type what needs making. If the words match a recipe in your book, the recipe is offered under the box: press it to add that recipe, which can then be worked a stage at a time. Leave it alone for a plain line, such as “slice lemons”.
- Fill in How much if it matters, for example “x2” or “4 litres”.
- Check Needed by. It starts at tomorrow, at the hour the location opens. Press it to pick a day and then an hour, or Today, or No time.
- Under Who, leave it for everyone working that day, or pick one person. Switch on Urgent if it has to jump the queue.
- Press Add. It says Added and the row is on the list.
Several at once
- Press Add several.
- Type or paste the list into the box, one thing after another, with commas or new lines between them: “2x mac sauce, barbecue sauce, slice lemons”.
- After a moment the lines are read back. Each has its quantity, its name and the recipe it was matched to. Correct any of them, change the recipe (or pick No recipe), or press the cross to leave a line out.
- Set Needed by at the foot. It applies to every line.
- Press Add, which shows how many lines it will add. The list then shows how many were added, with Put in order beside it.
On the phone
- Open Me and press Prep list. While there is something on the list, it is also on Today under Prep.
- Press Add at the foot. The Add to prep sheet opens on One.
- Type what needs making, and press a recipe if one is offered. Add how much, set Needed by, and switch on Urgent if it is.
- Press Add. It says Added to prep.
For a whole list, press Several, type the list or say it to the keyboard’s microphone, and press Review. Check each line and its recipe (Pick a recipe where none was matched), then press Add.
What happens next
The row appears on the list for everyone at the location, and on the kitchen wall screen if you have one. From there people start it and tick it off. For something made on the same day every week, see Set up regular prep.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no Prep list page or row
- Either you do not have the prep permission at this location, or the location has the Prep part of the app switched off. Ask your manager.
- “Pick a location to see its prep list.”
- The web is on all locations. Pick one location at the top of the sidebar.
- “The list holds 200 things at most. Tick some off first”
- A location’s list holds 200 things that are not done. Tick off or take off what is no longer needed.
- “That’s too many at once — 40 at most”
- Add the list in two goes.
- You pressed Add twice and only one row appeared
- The same thing added again by the same person within five seconds counts as one press.
- “That recipe isn’t in this location’s book”
- The recipe was archived, or belongs to another location. Add the line without a recipe, or restore the recipe first.
