Read the checks score
What the score out of ten means, how it is worked out from on-time, late and missed checks, and where to compare days and locations.
The score is a number out of ten that says how many of a location’s scheduled checks were done, and done in time. It measures whether checks were recorded on time. It does not judge what the readings were, and it is not a food hygiene rating.
How it is worked out
- A check done on time counts 1.
- A check done late counts ½. Late means completed after it had turned overdue, or filled in after it was marked missed.
- A missed check counts 0.
The score is the total divided by the number of checks, times ten, to one decimal place. Eight on time, one late and one missed is 8.5. The page header says the same in short: On time 1 · late ½ · missed 0.
What is left out:
- Records started by hand with Log, such as an incident. Nothing was scheduled.
- Checks that are still open: not yet due, open now, or overdue but not yet missed.
A day with nothing to count has no score and is drawn blank. A check that is open for a week or a month counts on the day its window shuts.
Where to see it

The Scores page
Go to Checks, then Scores
Choose Daily, Weekly or Monthly, and how far back: Last 30 days, Last 90 days, Last 12 months or your own dates. The page shows:
- Average score for the period, marked Good from 8, Slipping from 5 and Poor below that, with how far it has moved from the period before.
- Trend, this period against the previous one.
- By location, a grid with a cell for each day, week or month. With more than one location you also get an All locations row. Click a cell to open that location’s History on those days.
Export downloads the grid as a spreadsheet file. With All locations picked in the sidebar you compare every location whose checks you can see.
If it doesn’t work
- A day shows no score
- Nothing scheduled that day has finished yet, or nothing was scheduled.
- “No locations whose checks you can see.”
- You do not have the “See every check and its history” permission at any location.
- “No score to compare”
- The period before has no score, so there is nothing to measure the change against.
