Set up a shared tablet for checks
Turn a tablet or other device into one the whole team does checks on, each person saying who they are with a PIN. And how to end it.
On this page
A shared tablet is a device left in the kitchen that shows one location’s checks and nothing else. Nobody is signed in on it. To do a check, a person picks their name and gives their own PIN, and the record carries their name. It needs a connection: a shared tablet does nothing offline.
On the web, in the tablet’s browser
Go to Checks, then Today
- On the device that will be shared, sign in to the web app and pick the location in the sidebar.
- Press Shared tablet at the top of Today.
- Check Your PIN is set. The figure beside On now, such as 8/12 PINs, is how many of the team have one.
- Type a Name for the tablet if you want one, such as where it is kept.
- Press Use this device as a shared tablet. You are signed out, and the device shows the day’s checks for that location.
In the app
- Open Checks and press the screen icon at the top, named Shared tablet.
- If it says Your PIN · not set, press Set PIN first.
- Type a name for the device if you want one.
- Press Use as shared tablet, then Share to confirm. You are signed out and the device shows the day’s checks.
End shared mode
- On the device. Press Leave, pick your name and type your PIN. Only people who may set up a shared tablet at that location are listed. Or press Sign in instead and sign in as yourself. It says Shared mode ended.
- From anywhere. In the web app open Shared tablet on Today, find the device under On now and press End. Use this if a tablet has gone missing: it stops working as a shared tablet at once.
What happens next
The tablet lists the day’s checks with a Log button for on-demand records. Checks done on it show in History with a Shared tablet mark and the name you gave the device. See Do a check on a shared tablet.
If it doesn’t work
- There is no Shared tablet button
- You do not have the permission to set one up at this location.
- “12 shared tablets at most — end one first”
- A location can have twelve shared devices on at once. End one you no longer use.
- “Not allowed here” after signing in on the tablet
- The person who signed in may not set up or end a shared tablet at that location, so the device stays shared.
- “No connection”
- The device is offline. Checks open again when the connection is back.
